2024, a vintage in tune

The 2024 vintage in Bordeaux stands out due to complex weather conditions:
A mild and very wet winter: Rainfall reached around 480 mm, which is more than 50% above the ten-year average, with temperatures 1.5°C above normal. This led to early budburst without any real frost episodes. A cool and rainy spring: Persistent rainfall encouraged the development of downy mildew, complicating vineyard management and affecting flowering in the majority of plots. A warm but not excessive summer: Moderate summer temperatures, without heat spikes, allowed for good ripening of the grapes, with cool nights promoting the synthesis of aromatic compounds.
A staggered harvest: Harvesting took place under variable conditions, with many stormy episodes interspersed with sunny periods. This required estates to be highly reactive.
On the Left Bank, the Grands Crus produced balanced wines with bright fruit and moderate alcohol levels. Despite high disease pressure, the top estates succeeded in crafting wines with freshness, supple tannins, and complex notes of dark fruits and spices. On the Right Bank, the wines display beautiful color, balance, roundness, and good density on the palate. Yields are low, around 35 hl/ha, but quality is there for estates that managed vinification well.
The 2024 Bordeaux vintage was marked by significant climatic challenges, but the winemakers’ efforts resulted in wines of real quality. The reds offer freshness, balance, and drinkability, while the whites stand out for their vibrancy and aromatic precision. This vintage truly reflects the adaptability and expertise of Bordeaux producers.
In the current challenging economic climate, we believe that the property will once again be able to lower prices to help reinvigorate the market.
2024 should therefore represent excellent value for money.
